About Debt Relief Order (DRO)

A DRO can be suitable if your qualifying debts are £50,000 or less, your spare income after essential costs is £75 a month or less, and your assets are worth £2,000 or less (a car worth up to £4,000 can be excluded if needed for work). After a 12-month moratorium, qualifying debts are written off. You must apply through an approved debt adviser.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a DRO myself?

No — a DRO must be applied for through an FCA-approved debt adviser, not directly. This is a legal safeguard, not extra paperwork for its own sake.

Are you a debt adviser yourselves?

No — Reduce Debt Quickly is an independent information service. We always recommend free advice from StepChange, National Debtline or MoneyHelper before choosing any paid solution.

Will these options affect my credit file?

Most formal debt solutions (IVA, DRO, bankruptcy) do affect your credit file, typically for several years — this is disclosed honestly on each option’s page above.

What happens after I request a callback?

A partner debt adviser reviews your situation and explains which options genuinely apply to you — there’s no obligation to proceed.
